Acne Treatment - Roaccutane

Acne treatment with Roaccutane (isotretinoin) is one of the most effective treatments available for acne vulgaris.  Roaccutane (isotretinoin) is a prescription only medicine that helps to dry oil glands and get your active acne under control.  It is appropriate for moderate to severe acne and you must be seen regularly by your botonics dermatologist during treatment.

There are concerns that isotretinoin may cause depression and suicidal feelings. Details about any personal and family history of mental illness should be discussed with your own doctor and dermatologist prior to considering treatment with isotretinoin.

Most courses of isotretinoin last four months during which time the skin may become red and dry. Often, acne becomes a little worse before improvement occurs.

It should be emphasised that many thousands of people have benefitted from treatment with isotretinoin without serious side effects.

For Women

Roaccutane (isotretinoin) can cause birth defects.  Therefore, it is a requirement that during the 5 - 7 months you will be required to take the medicine, you do not become pregnant.

Treatment with Roaccutane (isotretinoin) includes the following

  • Your initial consultation and assessment with an experienced dermatologist
  • Two blood tests
  • (For men) 4 assessments during the 5 - 7 month treatment phase
  • (For women) 7 assessments during the 5 - 7 month treatment phase, including monthly pregnancy tests

Cost of Treatment

  • £900 for men
  • £1200 for women

Cost of Roaccutane

The treatment cost does NOT include the cost of Roaccutane (isotretinoin), which must be purchased from a pharmacy via prescription.  The cost of Roaccutane (isotretinoin) depends on the clients body weight, which at September 2008 was approximately as follows:

As a former model, I was apprehensive about having Wrinkle relaxing injections and Dermal filler treatments because I thought it would be painful and I would look strange. I needn't have worried! The process was virtually painless and the result completely natural.

The whole thing took about 10 minutes and it was great, really relaxing. The idea of being able to recline on my sofa and have my husband here during the treatment is far more appealing than going into a clinic.
