Dermal Fillers - FAQs Frequently Asked Questions

What are Dermal fillers made of?
There are many injectable cosmetic fillers on the market today. At botonics, we use a variety of products depending on what is most appropriate for your particular needs. In most cases, the various Restylane products generate the best results. Restylane is a cosmetic filler made in Sweden and designed to eliminate wrinkles and folds in the skin of the face and the lips. Introduced in 1996, Restylane is still manufactured in Sweden by pharmaceutical company Q-Med and widely used there as well as other European countries, South America, and the United States. Figures from the manufacturer estimate that over a million people have successfully been treated with Restylane.

Is it safe?
The hyaluronic acid in botonics Dermal fillers is biodegradable, which means that, when the injected gel breaks down, it turns into water and carbon dioxide and disappears unnoticed from your body.

What will happen during treatment?
Your botonics Practitioner will determine the areas and extent of treatment by discussing your objectives and then use the most appropriate product to achieve an aesthetically pleasing result. Areas that can be treated include wrinkle correction and lip enhancements using original Restylane; correcting thin superficial lines, around the mouth, forehead and smile using Restylane Touch; and shaping facial contours, such as cheeks and chin, correcting deep folds, and for volume augmentation of the lips using Perlane. Your Practitioner will administer several tiny injections in the areas to be treated.

How long does treatment take?
The treatment can usually be done in about 10 - 15 minutes and no recovery time is needed (see Aftercare instructions). The only visible signs that you?ve had anything done are some potential redness or minor bruising around the injection points. However, this is very minor and many people have a Dermal filler treatment in their lunchtime and return to work in the afternoon.

How does it work?
The active ingredient in Restylane is derived from hyaluronic acid, which is a natural sugar found in the skin. Its function in the skin is to maintain volume and pliability. The unique property of this acid is its ability to bind with water molecules up to 1000 times its original size, making it an excellent choice for a filler. Because it can bind with water, it is extremely safe when eliminated with regular body waste over time.

How quickly will I see results?
The result is instantaneous and produces a long-lasting, natural enhancement, gentle and safe to your skin.

How long will it last?
Patients have been much more satisfied with Restylane than collagen because it can last up to 60% longer. Dermal fillers are long lasting but not permanent. You always have a choice to continue or change the combination of treatments - and the procedure can be repeated as often as you like. Most patients choose to have a follow-up treatment 6 - 12 months after an initial treatment of wrinkles.

Does it hurt a lot?
For most people, discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Most patients compare the sensation to a pin prick. No anaesthesia is required, although your botonics Practitioner may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anaesthetic cream prior to injecting.

Is there any reason I shouldn't have treatment?
During your consultation, a medical history will be taken to assess any risks that would preclude treatment. We recommend you review the Aftercare instructions to be aware of the Do's and Don'ts post treatment.

What are the side effects?
Immediately after treatment, there may be slight redness, swelling, tenderness and an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. The inconvenience is temporary and generally disappears in a few days. This means that the results directly after the treatment should not be seen as the final result.

Will I look unnatural after treatment?
At botonics, we strive for a natural looking result via subtle improvements. Friends may comment that you look more relaxed, but treatment will not radically alter your appearance; it will simply reduce lines and wrinkles.

Do I have to be a certain age to have Dermal filler treatment?
Dermal filler treatments are generally thought to be safe to use in individuals aged between 18 and 65. Wrinkle and line treatment will usually be of benefit to those 25 years or older.

The whole thing took about 10 minutes and it was great, really relaxing. The idea of being able to recline on my sofa and have my husband here during the treatment is far more appealing than going into a clinic.

I've been having hyperhidrosis treatments with botonics for years now and I don't know how I ever got on without them!  A quick visit every six months or so and I don't ever have to worry about staining my shirts with sweat!  It's such a relief to live my life free of a problem I had for years.
