Anaesthetic Local anaesthetic (to the treatment area) will be injected immediately prior to treatment. Pain Individual clients have varying pain thresholds; however clients previously treated with Macrolane have reported mild - moderate discomfort during the procedure. Prior to your Macrolane treatment your doctor may recommend that you take prophylactic pain relief. This should be taken as directed by your treating doctor. You should take pain relief regularly (in accordance with the instructions for use leaflet supplied with the medication) for the first 48 hours after your treatment. Avoid medication that contains aspirin for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after your procedure. (If you are currently taking prescribed aspirin for a diagnosed heart condition please discuss this with your doctor.) Dressings Waterproof dressings will be removed 2 weeks after your procedure by a nurse, this will be at your 2 week follow up appointment. Areas that have been injected may be tender for 7 - 10 days. Moisturising creams or oils can be used 72 hours after your procedure. If you're having Macrolane to your breasts, a support / sports bra must be work day and night for 1 week, and must be worn when doing vigorous activity for 2 weeks. The recommended support level is 3 or 4 support. These bras are available at any major department store. You can shower normally upon returning home. Bruising and Swelling There should only be minimal bruising which will normally resolve after 10 - 14 days. Some clients have reported that Arnica Tablets have been beneficial in reducing and/or preventing bruising. Any swelling will normally resolve after 10 days. However, for a complete result and optimum appearance, allow 2 weeks. Sutures If sutures have been used following this procedure you will be advised by your treating doctor if they are soluble sutures or, if not, when you need to return to the clinic to have them removed. Exercise It is strongly advised that you do not take part in vigorous exercise for 2 weeks. Effects/Results Results are expected to last for 12 - 18 months. However, a top up treatment is normally required at 9 - 12 months to maintain the desired shape. For Macrolane breast enhancement, increase is approximately 1/2 - 1 1/2 cup sizes. Precautions Not suitable for pregnant or lactating women. Antibiotics may be prescribed for you prophylactically. They can decrease the effectiveness of contraceptive pills.
