Cosmetic Surgery – Liposuction
Feeling good about your body is bound to play a significant part in your overall well being, and research shows that those who are unhappy with certain aspects of their appearance are far less likely to feel good about themselves. Cosmetic surgery has been developed to help improve otherwise unalterable parts of the body, and the constant progress of cosmetic procedures means that today’s treatments are as painless and risk free as possible.
Liposuction is one of the most well known cosmetic procedures, and its invention dates back as far as the 1920s. Nevertheless it was not until 1974 that the procedure was used by surgeons in Italy. Liposuction removes the unwanted fat from certain areas of the body, most commonly the thighs, abdomen, backs of the arms, buttocks and the neck. Candidates for liposuction treatment are those who have unwanted stores of fat in these areas that cannot be shifted through either dieting or exercise. Liposuction is not a cure for significantly overweight or obese patients, but rather a way to shift small areas of fat from the body.
Both men and women commonly undergo lipo, although the usually affected areas of the body are different in each sex. Women tend to need treatment in the hip, thigh and flank area, and occasionally the abdomen. Men are more likely to need liposuction around the back and abdomen, particularly in the area known as ‘love handles’. Other areas that can undergo treatment are knees, calves, breasts, arms and chin.
Besides the standard liposuction procedure, two alternatives known as SmartLipo and Vaser Lipo liposuction are also available. SmartLipo gives superior skin tightening, whilst Vaser Lipo liposuction is an extremely simple and pain free alternative.
