An individual’s identity is often primarily determined by the face—its structure, overall appearance, and expressions. As such, age-related changes that can alter the appearance of the face may make an individual feel as if their identity has changed over time. Changes can occur in the upper, mid, and lower portions of the face; however, changes to the middle region of the face can often occur earlier than changes to the lower face. These changes may include loss of volume and sagging of the cheeks, as well as the development of deep wrinkles and hollow areas below the lower eyelids.
The face is composed of layers of skin, muscle, and fat which lie above the facial bones. Much like a rubber band that has been over stretched, the tissues within your face weaken, losing their resiliency and ability to maintain a firm, youthful position.
Facial ageing occurs for many reasons. In response to sun damage and other factors, your skin’s support network of collagen and elastin breaks down. As a result, your skin loses some of its structure and elasticity and becomes lax. Additionally, the facial muscles weaken and stretch, and fat deposits, which normally give the face a soft, rounded appearance, migrate downward and are depleted. In combination, these changes work together to create sagging cheeks, hollow areas, and deep wrinkles in the mid face.

Am I too young (or old) for a face lift?
Most clients who seek a facelift are about 35 - 45 years old. However, if a client has substantial loose skin of the face and/or neck at a younger age, they can undergo this procedure. Unfortunately, if a client's skin elasticity has diminished too much during the ageing process, he or she may not qualify as an ideal face lift candidate.
How long will face lift results last?
The results of facelift surgery are long-lasting; however, the natural ageing process may cause the skin to sag once again.
Will it be obvious that I've had a face lift?
If a face lift is performed correctly, there should be no surgical signs. The goal is to help the client look more youthful and rested, without creating a face that appears too "tight."
Will face lift surgery eliminate all of my facial wrinkles?
No, facelift surgery is designed to target the lower portion of the face, along with the neck. Wrinkles of the forehead and around the eyes will require procedures such as eyelid surgery, brow lift surgery, and/or Botox injections.
How long before I can resume normal activities after my facelift?
Clients can return back to work in about a week and a half to two weeks, but strenuous activity should be avoided for at least two weeks.
