What medicines do you use?
When making Wrinkle relaxing injections we use the well known brand of Prescription Only Medicine and so you will only treated once you have had a free consultation with a botonics physician and, if appropriate, been issued with a prescription. The medicines we use are derived from purified proteins produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. When properly administered by a professionally trained botonics Practitioner, these treatments reduce the activity of the muscles that cause frown lines and wrinkles to form over time. During treatment, very small doses of medicine are injected into facial muscles, which causes them to relax and smoothes out the skin.
Aren’t these medicines a toxin to the body?
Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin produced by the bacteria called Clostridium botulinum, which causes the form of food poisoning we know as botulism. Botulism toxins bind to nerve endings and prevent muscles from contracting by blocking release of acetylcholine, which causes muscle contractions, from the nerve. This is basically how our Wrinkle relaxing injections work, but within much smaller and safer parameters. For example, it has been estimated that the amount of wrinkle relaxing medicine used to treat every patient in the world for one year is equivalent to just one spoonful of Clostridium botulinum bacteria!
How effective is treatment?
In clinical trials, nearly 90% of men and women surveyed rated the improvement in the appearance of frown lines between their brows as moderate to better one month after treatment.
What will happen during treatment?
Your botonics Practitioner will administer several tiny injections directly into the muscles that cause wrinkles. Your botonics Practitioner will determine where to administer the injections by examining your ability to move certain muscles on your face. The location, size, and use of the muscles that create wrinkles vary markedly among individuals.
How long does treatment take?
The treatment can usually be done in about 10 - 15 minutes and no recovery time is needed (see Aftercare instructions). The only visible signs that you've had anything done are some potential redness or minor bruising around the injection points. However, this is very minor and many people have a Wrinkle relaxing treatment in their lunchtime and return to work in the afternoon.
How does it work?
Lines on your face form over time as the result of repeated muscle activity over many years. The botonics treatment blocks transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles causing them to be less active creating a smoother, more youthful look.
How quickly will I see the results?
While some people report an almost instant improvement, there should be a noticeable improvement to the lines on your face within a few days.
How long will it last?
Results typically last for three to four months but they do vary from person to person. Wrinkle relaxing treatments are not a cure. Should you stop having treatments, the lines on your face will gradually return to their state before treatment.
Does it hurt a lot?
For most people, discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Most patients compare the sensation to a pin prick. No anaesthesia is required, although your botonics Practitioner may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anaesthetic cream prior to injecting.
Is there any reason I shouldn't have treatment?
During your consultation, a medical history will be taken to assess any risks that would preclude treatment. We recommend you review the Aftercare instructions to be aware of the Do's and Don'ts post treatment.
What are the side effects?
Some of the possible side effects include bruising at injection area, headaches, temporary eyelid droop, nausea and cold and flu-like symptoms. In rare instances, adverse reactions may include nausea, pain in the face and muscle weakness. These will usually occur within the first week post-treatment.
Will I look unnatural after treatment?
One of reasons Wrinkle relaxing treatment is so popular is the subtle improvement it makes to your appearance. Friends may comment that you look more relaxed, but treatment will not radically alter your appearance; it will simply reduce muscle activity. You will still be able to frown or smile as you used to.
Do I have to be a certain age to have Wrinkle relaxing injections?
Wrinkle relaxing injections are generally thought to be safe to use in individuals aged between 18 and 65. Treatment will usually be of benefit to those 25 years or older.
