Alternatives to Traditional Liposuction

by Naruschka Henriques

Liposuction can be an extremely effective way to remove fat from parts of the body.  Traditionally, the liposuction procedure requires a relatively long recovery time, and some patients can experience pain following the treatment.  With new liposuction technologies, the recovery time can be greatly reduced, and the level of pain and bruising is minimal.

Although it has been around for over a decade, it’s only in recent years that Smart Lipo has surged in popularity.  Unlike traditional liposuction, Smart Lipo does not require a general anaesthetic, greatly reducing the medical risk of the treatment, recovery time and the time it takes to complete the procedure.  Some treatments can be completed within two hours.  During the Smart Lipo procedure, a laser is directed at the fatty deposits that the patient wants targeting.  This melts the fat inside the body, which is then metabolised by the liver over a period of time.  Although the results are not as instantaneous as traditional lipo, the pain and recovery time are greatly reduced, and patients are generally very pleased with the results.

The latest in liposuction technology is Vaser (Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance).  Vaser liposuction uses ultrasound to aid in the breakdown of fatty cells.  It’s extremely precise and can be used to target extremely specific areas of the body.  It’s suitable for people who want to remove large areas of fat as Vaser liposuction can remove up to three times as much fat as other types of liposuction.
