If you are unhappy with the appearance of dark circles under your eyes and want to restore a more youthful look, tear trough filler treatment may be an option to consider.

Tear trough filler works best where the primary cause is volume loss and hollowing. It is not appropriate in every case, and the following are clear contra-indications:

• Significant under-eye fat prolapse: where puffy bags remain visible even when lying down flat, the issue is protruding fat rather than lost volume, and filler is likely to worsen the appearance rather than improve it.
• Very loose or crepe-textured skin: where skin laxity is the dominant concern, adding volume beneath it will not tighten or smooth the surface and results are unlikely to be satisfactory.
• Active skin infection in the area: any active infection around the lower eyelid or cheek rules out injectable treatment until the area has fully resolved.
• Pregnancy or breastfeeding: dermal filler treatments are not carried out on patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

The Tear Trough Filler Treatment

At botonics we use Restylane, a fine hyaluronic acid filler for the under-eye area. An enhancement typically requires 2.0ml or more, with the amount needed discussed as part of your consultation.

Treatment is carried out using a blunt cannula technique, with a fine needle used in a small number of cases where more precise placement is required.

2. Step Two

   Preparation and Numbing

   On the day of your treatment, the under-eye area is cleansed and prepared. The dermal filler we use contains anaesthetic, which numbs the area progressively as the treatment proceeds. No additional topical anaesthetic is applied, as this can blanch the skin and make it harder to assess the area accurately during treatment.

3. Step Three

   The Treatment

   Using a blunt cannula technique, your specialist places Restylane deep beneath the skin, close to the bone. This reduces the risk of surface lumpiness and produces a smooth, natural-looking result. Injections take approximately 10 to 20 minutes, with a fine needle used in a small minority of cases for precise placement.

4. Step Four

   Aftercare and Recovery

   Most patients are able to return to work within 24 hours. For the first 48 hours, avoid touching the treated area, strenuous exercise, alcohol, and extreme heat.
