Tear Trough Filler London
Advice

What do our clients think? Average 5 out of 5 based on 76 reviewsRead all reviews

Having tear trough fillers can seem like a scary thought and there are certainly mixed opinions about the treatment on the internet and in the press. The Tear trough is arguably the most technically and artistically challenging of all treatments, so it is not surprising that some people have a bad experience after seeing an inexperienced practitioner. When done properly, tear trough fillers can make a huge difference to your appearance and give you your confidence!

We have put together a list of frequently asked questions below to help put your mind at ease and banish any myths that you may have heard. If you can’t find the answer that you’re looking for on this page then feel free to contact us or ask your specialist when you have your initial meeting with us. We are more than happy to help you make your decision and put at ease any worries you may have.

How long does tear trough bruising last?

It is normal to have some bruising and swelling following any tear trough filler injection which can last several days. How obvious it is, and how quickly you recover, varies from person to person depending on underlying health and the extent to which you have followed our pre-care and aftercare advice.

If you diligently avoid blood thinners and take arnica tablets PRIOR to treatment, and apply arnica cream, take acrivastine & bromelain and use HOT compresses AFTER treatment, you will recover as quickly as your body will allow. Click here for our tear trough precare and aftercare protocol.

Is a tear trough treatment suitable for eye bags?

When clients describe the area under their eye as having ‘bags’, usually a tear trough treatment is not appropriate. Instead, a blepharoplasty surgery is required. Clients who are suitable for a tear trough treatment usually describe the area under their eyes as looking hollow, sunken or having dark circles. We can usually tell which treatment is indicated by reviewing photos, so you’re welcome to send in some pictures with a few photos for assessment by our specialist.

What does a tear trough treatment involve?

A tear trough treatment involves the injection of dermal fillers into the hollows under the eyes for the instant correction of volume loss. A combined consultation/treatment appointment is about an hour. The consultation takes about 30 minutes and the injections take only 10 – 15 minutes. Results are instant and the treatment can be reversed if you don’t like how it looks. It is quite possible you can have some transient bruising and swelling following treatment. The treatment is NOT appropriate for resolving eye bags which is caused by loose skin or herniated fat. In these cases, a blepharoplasty surgery is indicated.

How long does tear trough filler last?

The duration of tear trough filler is usually quoted as 6 – 12 months by the manufacturer. However, in our experience, the aesthetic benefit of a tear trough treatment will be gone sooner even though filler remains.

A typical pattern for tear trough clients is to have a 2ml – 3ml treatment initially, then return for 1ml maintenance treatments a couple of times in the first year, then 1 – 2 times/year thereafter.

There are many factors that can shorten the duration of filler (e.g. fast metabolism, poor diet, smoking, lack of sleep, cardiovascular exercise, large muscle mass, etc.). We have no control over how long filler lasts once it is injected, and so can offer no warranty as to aesthetic duration.

Once the body has gotten used to the filler, and we are working on an established foundation, then the aesthetic benefit starts to have a longer duration. Over time, your tear troughs will gradually return to the state they were prior to treatment. For more information, please see this article: How long will my dermal filler last?
