Every brand of filler will give an estimated life span of their filler (e.g. 6 – 12 months) but the area treated and your metabolic rate will greatly influence the longevity of filler. There are a number of factors that affect the longevity of temporary dermal fillers in any individual, including:
1. Client metabolism
2. Dieting and exercise
3. Filler location
Client metabolism: Because one person’s individual metabolism is different to the next, the longevity of filler will also vary greatly from one person to another. For those with a very fast metabolic rate, filler will break down much more rapidly than in those with a slower metabolic rate. Individuals with more muscle mass, especially men, will break down product much faster than those with less muscle mass.
Dieting and exercise: Intense weight loss will also metabolise your filler much faster than normal especially if you skip meals! Remember, the more you exercise and the fitter you are, the higher will be your metabolic rate. You will therefore metabolise temporary dermal fillers much faster.
Filler location: Where the filler is placed also has a direct affect on how long it will last. For example, fillers placed around the mouth or lip fillers tend to break down much faster than other areas due to the amount of muscle activity in this area of the face. The mouth is constantly moving in a variety of very complex ways to form all the subtleties and extremes of movement that we need to express and communicate with other. However, other areas such as temples, cheek fillers, non-surgical nose job and tear trough areas tend to last much longer because there is much less movement in these areas and also because the muscles do not induce enough movement to challenge the integrity of the filler at such a great level.
