VASER liposuction is a minimally invasive body contouring procedure that uses ultrasound energy to selectively break down and remove stubborn fat deposits. VASER lipo is available from botonics at our Harley Street clinic, in the heart of London’s private medical community.

Unlike traditional liposuction, VASER technology targets fat cells specifically while leaving surrounding tissues, blood vessels, and nerves largely intact. This can mean less bruising, a faster recovery, and smoother results. Because the procedure can be performed under local anaesthetic, an overnight hospital stay may not be required, and most patients return to work within about a week.

VASER suits both men and women. Male fat tends to be denser and more fibrous than female fat, and VASER’s ultrasound technology can be used to break this down precisely, making it an option for men wanting more definition and a leaner, more athletic contour.

Areas Treated With VASER Lipo

VASER lipo can treat virtually any area of the body where stubborn fat deposits resist diet and exercise. Treatable areas include:

  • Upper and lower abdomen (waistline)
  • Inner and outer thighs
  • Lower back and flanks (love handles)
  • Chest, including gynaecomastia in men
  • Neck and jawline (double chin)
  • Backs of arms (bingo wings)
  • Back and shoulders
  • Knees and calves

An area covers both sides of the body. Both inner thighs count as one area, and both love handles count as one area. If a large volume or several areas require treatment, a multi-session plan tailored to your needs can be discussed at your consultation.

Am I A Suitable Candidate For VASER Lipo?

VASER lipo is designed for people who are already close to their target weight and want to address stubborn, localised pockets of fat. It is a body contouring procedure, not a route to significant weight loss.

The following may affect suitability:

  • Significant skin laxity: where loose or sagging skin is the dominant concern, fat removal alone may not achieve a smooth result. Your specialist will advise whether an alternative approach is more appropriate.
  • High BMI: candidates with a significantly elevated BMI may need a tailored discussion about which approach is most suitable. Skin elasticity is particularly relevant to results.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding: VASER lipo is not carried out on patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Active skin infection or open wounds in the treatment area: these must be fully resolved before any procedure takes place.
  • Medications affecting clotting: certain medications and underlying health conditions may affect suitability and will be assessed at consultation.

If you are unsure whether you are a good candidate, a free consultation at our Harley Street clinic is the right place to start.

Your Journey From Start To Finish

  1. Step One

    Free Consultation

Before any procedure takes place, you will meet with your botonics specialist for a free, no-obligation consultation. They will assess the areas you want treated, review your medical history, and discuss your goals in detail. This is where your treatment plan is agreed, including the number of areas, the anaesthetic approach, and what results are realistic for your body.

  2. Step Two

    Preparation

On the day of your procedure, the treatment areas are marked and anaesthesia is administered. Most VASER lipo procedures at botonics are performed under sedation with general anaesthetic used in some cases depending on the volume and preferences of the surgeon and patient. Procedures typically take between one and a half and five hours, depending on the number of areas being treated.

  3. Step Three

    The Procedure

Ultrasound energy is delivered beneath the skin to emulsify the targeted fat cells, which are then gently suctioned away. VASER technology is designed to preserve surrounding connective tissue, blood vessels, and nerves as much as possible, helping to reduce trauma to the surrounding area. Your procedure is performed by a specialist surgeon at our Harley Street clinic.

  4. Step Four

    Aftercare and Recovery

Once the procedure is complete, you will be helped into a compression garment to support the treated areas during recovery. Most patients are able to go home the same day. Your botonics team will arrange follow-up appointments to monitor your progress.

VASER Lipo Recovery: What To Expect

Knowing what each stage involves can make recovery easier to plan for.

Days 1 to 3: Some swelling, bruising, and fluid leakage from the incision points is normal and expected. Rest at home and wear your compression garment as directed.

Week 1: Most patients return to desk-based work within about a week. Avoid strenuous activity and sports during this time.

Weeks 2 to 4: Light movement is encouraged to support circulation. Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise until your specialist confirms it is safe to do so.

4 to 6 weeks: Results become more visible as swelling continues to settle. Many patients may be cleared to return to the gym at around this stage.

3 to 6 months: Skin tightening continues gradually over this period, with final results typically visible at around six months depending on individual skin quality.

Risks And Complications Of VASER Lipo

As with any cosmetic procedure, you should understand the risks before going ahead. Your specialist will explain these carefully as part of the consultation and consent process.

  • Bruising and swelling: very common and expected. This typically settles within the first one to two weeks.
  • Infection: rare but possible any time the skin is broken. Clinical hygiene protocols and the use of very fine cannulas help reduce the risk.
  • Asymmetry: subtle asymmetry is a recognised risk in any body contouring procedure. Your treatment is planned carefully with the aim of achieving a balanced, proportionate outcome.
  • Skin irregularities: in some cases the skin surface may appear uneven during the healing process. This typically improves as swelling settles over the following weeks.
  • Fluid leakage: some fluid leakage from incision points in the first few days is normal and expected.

Common questions

VASER Liposuction London, answered

How much does VASER lipo cost in London?

Pricing depends on how many areas you would like treated and whether you need a multi-session plan for larger volumes. An area covers both sides of the body. Both inner thighs count as one area, and both love handles count as one area. Exact costs are confirmed at your free consultation once your goals and treatment plan have been discussed.

Is VASER liposuction painful?

VASER liposuction is performed using anaesthetic to help manage discomfort during the procedure. Some patients experience pain, bruising, or soreness afterwards, and the level of discomfort varies from person to person. The procedure can be performed under local anaesthetic with optional sedation, or general anaesthetic for larger cases.

How long is the recovery?

Most patients return to work or light duties within about one week. Some swelling, bruising, and fluid leakage from incision points can occur in the first few days as part of the healing process. Results become more visible around four to six weeks, with skin tightening continuing over three to six months depending on individual skin quality.

Who is a good candidate for VASER lipo?

VASER lipo is generally suited to healthy individuals with stubborn fat deposits that have not responded to diet and exercise, rather than those looking for significant weight loss. It can be used for both men and women, including men with gynaecomastia. Suitability is assessed during your free consultation with a specialist surgeon.

What is the difference between VASER and traditional liposuction?

VASER liposuction uses ultrasound technology to emulsify fat cells before they are removed. This is designed to limit trauma to surrounding tissue and may lead to less bruising and a quicker recovery in suitable patients. Traditional liposuction uses a different fat-removal technique and may be more appropriate in some cases. Your surgeon will advise which approach best suits your goals at consultation.

What is the difference between standard-def, mid-def and hi-def VASER?

Standard-def VASER removes fat deposits to improve body shape and contour. Mid-def and hi-def techniques go further, selectively removing fat around muscle groups to enhance muscular definition. Hi-def and hi-def Plus are advanced techniques suited to patients with good underlying muscle tone. Your specialist will advise which approach is appropriate at consultation.
